Meet The Team: Chipper, Groundsman

Chipper has been with us for four years and is very well known around Cambridge. He is a jack of all trades including butchering, barman at the Hautapu Rugby Club and also turns his hand to road construction. If that’s not enough, he is also a passionate and talented lawn bowls player!

Chipper has always dabbled in the ownership of racing stock and currently has shares in a greyhound.

He is often seen on the ride on mower out the front of the Main and Top Farm. Give him a wave if you happen to be driving by.

Where does your passion for horses come from? 
My mother used to take me to the races as a young fella. 

How did you get started in the thoroughbred industry? 
My uncle trained horses so I used to ride track work for him.

What is your favourite part about working at Wentwood Grange? 
Smoko with Des and Jan.

What is your favourite time of year? 
Summer

What is your proudest moment or best memory since you started with Wentwood Grange? Everyday is a proud moment having the grounds and gardens looking good

Who is someone that inspires you? 
Des Hawkins, he is a person that never stops working, no job too big.

If you could sit down and have a drink with any three people (alive or passed) who would you choose?  Elton John, Elvis Presley and Buck Shelford

Do you have any hobbies outside of work? 
Outdoor Bowls, Indoor Bowls, Playing Cards.

Ask questions, If you need help don’t be afraid to ask, and always work to your ability.
